Accepting the Truth About Life

Wisdom for the day:

Most of the unnecessary pain we cause ourselves in life comes from not accepting the truth about the human condition and the realities of our lives. If we could just accept those truths and realities, we could move through our days and decades without so much unnecessary pain.
-- Lauren Mellin

I think the basic message from the above is that most pain we suffer is from our unrealistic or unreasonable expectations from life. Once we have accepted the human condition and realities, we can then learn to make decisions even when there are so seemingly good options.

------------

I was about to publish this post, my naughty cat just climbed on the net curtain in our living room. She clang onto it and tried to get out from the window only to realise that the window was not open. When she beat a hasty retreat upon our yelling, we noticed that she left behind a huge hole in the curtain. Hubby became very upset with our cat while I just laughed.

What else can you do? What's done is done and you can't control a cat's behaviour! I've learnt to accept the realities of being a cat owner! *grin*

The Buddhists say that "all life is suffering" and that suffering lies in our desires. I think that makes a lot of sense. If you can control your perspective in regards to wants and expectations, everbearing in mind that we can only affect the present, there is very little we can control and thus must find pleasure in what is before us.

g: in this university of life, we never graduate! In this university we see us go through many cycles of pleasure and pain and it is after many cycles we become intimate with our very own core, knowing that we want too much, expect too much and demand from life too much. You are right: truth can't be taught! Yet truth reveals itself when we go against it and hurt ourselves.

Real e: "life is suffering and all our sufferings lies in our desires". Buddhism touches the core of all our problems that's why it's such a down-to-earth religion/belief. I agree with you in that we change our perspective, we change the world!

Greenbean: you never cease to amaze me how wise you are! I think green bean soup will be good for me. As a matter of fact, it's being brewed in my kitchen right now! Because I had no taste buds last week, all I craved for was spicy and hot food I think my body is losing that 'heat-cold' balance. Very good advice indeed greenbean. Thanks!

I believe accepting the truth is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves. Doing this allows us to get realistic perspectives on cerntain situations in order to let go and move on. if we cant accept the truth than we cannot let go and therefore move on in order to evolve. not accepting the truth can result in us being stuck in denial about either the past, relationships that we are in or certain situations. This is unhealthy. in order to be free we must accept the truth what ever that may be. accepting and seeing things for what they REALLY are on a daily basis allows us to be free which allows us to reach our full potential every day. When we are reaching our full potential consistantly we feel good and confident about who we are as individuals. When this happens nothing can hold us back and we are free to unleash what we have to give the world, and everyone has something to give. Accepting the truth is not easy. A liar is only lying to themselves and therefore they are in denial therefore they are not being themselves (if they have to lie). People in general are not trying to hurt people although this seems to happen alot. It is just that they are reacting to certain situations. Not accepting things for what they are and just reacting. If you can not be in the drama but be watching you can see exactly what is actually going on. And from a number of perspectives at that. If you are reacting then you are in the drama and therefore not in full control as you can not see exactly what is going on. If your not wasting time and energy on reacting and instead seeing the situation for what it really is and not being in denial, then solving the problem becomes easier and takes little of your energy creating more space time and energy to spend on things that will do good for ourselfs other people and our environment. After all looking after people and our planet is simply looking after ourselfs. In my experience it all comes back to accepting the truth how ever hard that may be. It is truly important.
